Dr Henry Mwebesa
MBCHB, MPH
Dr. Henry Gatyanga Mwebesa is a Medical Doctor who has worked for the Ministry of Health, Government of Uganda, for over 28 years. He holds an MBCHB from Makerere University and an MPH from Leeds University UK. He has attended many short courses in Management from John Hopkins University, Harvard University, Galilee Institute etc.
Dr. Mwebesa is currently the Ministry’s Director General Health Services, since September 2017, responsible for overall technical supervision of health services in the country. Prior to this he was a Director Health Services responsible for Policy, Planning and Quality Assurance from 2015 – 2017.
Over the years, he has grown through the ranks in the MoH from a Medical Practitioner in various hospitals, to Senior Medical Officer, Principal Medical Officer, Assistant Commissioner, Commissioner Health Services/Head of Department (QA), Director Health Services (Policy and Planning) before being elevated to the position of Director General Health Services.
In his various responsibilities he has worked closely with Development Partners, the Private Sector and Civil SocietyOrganizations to strengthen Partnerships with the MOH. Healso has a long experience coordinating and supervising multimillion donor funded projects funded by USAID, African Development Bank and Islamic Development Bank.
